Steve Jobs proudly launched the first-generation iPad, and news organisations rejoiced, seeing the new world of tablet apps as the solution to their money woes. The Australian was one of the first cabs off the rank, with its iPad app drawing plenty of praise. The ABC also launched its News24 channel, making it a direct competitor to Murdoch’s Sky News.
