This week we continue Crikey’s 15th birthday celebration with another commemorative timeline, this time for 2010.
It was a big year for politics, the internet and media, with Kevin Rudd replaced by his deputy, Julia Gillard, during “the night of the long knives”.
Steve Jobs proudly launched the first-generation iPad, and news organisations rejoiced, seeing the new world of tablet apps as the solution to their money woes. The Australian was one of the first cabs off the rank, with its iPad app drawing plenty of praise. The ABC also launched its News24 channel, making it a direct competitor to Murdoch’s Sky News.
Julian Assange delivered the first mass drop of diplomatic cables through WikiLeaks, triggering global government panic. Here at Crikey, we spoke to Assange’s son, Daniel, about his father and his decision not to join him at WikiLeaks.
